The Beast

Inciting Incident Refresher: The Inciting Incident is the same as the Beast’s introduction. This is the case because his introduction into the story sets the story and the main conflict in motion.

But how does her introduction accomplish the 4 important elements? Click on each of them below to find out!

Proactive Protagonist

The Beast is proactively driving the story and the main conflict. It all begins when he has the spell cast upon him.

Story Goal

The Beast's story goal is to break his curse. This is not yet brought into the main conflict. It will at the 1st Plot Point, when the Beast sees an opportunity with Belle.

Brush with Antagonist

The Beast's antagonist is actually Belle. In a true love story, the antagonist is found in the love interest.

The Beast wants to break his curse, and Belle is his main obstacle in achieving that. Her goal (to escape from the Beast) gets in his way. The main definition of an antagonist is the person or thing that prevents the character from achieving his or her goal.

Question for the Climactic Moment

The question posed here is, Will the Beast break his spell?

The Beast was our first introduction into this story, but we pivoted from his curse into Belle's life. As a viewer, we want both of them to achieve their goals. The question when these two finally meet is whether or not that is possible.

This is answered in the Climactic Moment when the Beast overcomes his selfishness and Belle sees the beauty inside of him. They find happiness in each other.
